Making A Difference – Fair trade groceries and gifts
author: Making A Difference - 28 September 2018
Do you ever wonder what you could do personally to Make A Difference, for the better, in society?
We are a charity stall selling Fair Trade groceries, gifts and Christian cards at Newport Indoor Market. The stall is run entirely by volunteers. We raise money for charities including Christian Aid and Macmillan Cancer Support.
We stock Traidcraft groceries and gifts, which are all Fair Trade. Every purchase helps the community where the products are grown or made. Fair trade is fair to the People and the Planet.
There is an extensive Traidcraft catalogue, selling everything from hand crafted home décor, little treasures, fashion accessories, seasonal treats and food including tea, coffee and snacks. We are always happy to order and goods arrive within a couple of weeks.
We recently met the founders of Royrak beadinglove, (www.royrakbeadinglove.org) based in Thailand who make and sell quality jewellery and we stock a small selection of their necklaces and bracelets. We have a supply of Christian gifts and cards from Illuminate in Shrewsbury, Just Cards, Eden and the Leprosy Mission.
Chocolate (ginger divine thins), tape measures and the comfortable bamboo socks are our top sellers!
All our staff are volunteers and have time to stop and chat. There is always a spare chair for those who need to sit and rest. We offer Duke of Edinburgh/Volunteer experience as well.
Together we can Make A Difference. Perhaps you can help by doing one of the following:
1. Buy from the stall
2. Volunteer at the stall
3. Visit the stall to encourage and appreciate the volunteer
4. Pray for the continuing work of the stall August 2018
Our aim is to help people far and near. The sale of fairly traded goods benefits producers in the developing world; while the people who visit the stall can stop for a chat, and hopefully experience something of the love of Jesus.
