Not everyone knows about The Probus Club of Newport
Not everyone knows about The Probus Club of Newport. In fact it is a lively social and luncheon club for retired and semi-retired men. PROBUS is simply an acronym for Professional and Business.
Our venue is the Edgmond Lion. We meet every month at 1.00 pm on the first Monday unless it is a Bank Holiday, when the meeting is relocated to the next Monday.
The members include ex-University Lecturers, scientists, technicians, teachers, engineers, solicitors, builders, writers, estate agents, GPs, managers, police, sportsmen and others. Before and during lunch members mingle and chat and generally put the World right avoiding politics, faith and religion!
Visiting speakers are welcomed at every other luncheon meeting. They have included Ken Jones on Short Stories, Sarah Jones on Celebrancy, Carl Burton on Model Airplanes and Gordon Howdle on Writing his First Novel.
There are external visits during the better weather and special luncheons for wives and partners. There is a weekly raffle. Anyone wishing to learn more about our club is invited to contact either Gwyn Jones on 01952 813433 or Ray Cooney at raycooney12@gmail.com
