As many Newport residents will know there has always been a gym at the edge of Shuker Field and that in recent years it had fallen into disrepair and consequently it closed its doors.
Over the last 4 month the former Physical Sculpture gym has undergone a drastic facelift and has been transformed into one of Newports premier training facilities now called Alpha Athletic.
Maurice said ‘As a former employee many years ago and having in fact started out in the industry by doing my work experience here, I had a vision to not only make it fit for purpose again, but i wanted to create somewhere unique for a new generation of gym goers who are wanting a high quality non intimidating environment to train in’.
Maurice is the co-owner of the already successful Body Barn which is also located in Newport, down Pave lane.
When he realised the building lease was available, he approached the owner and after discussions they both felt that the time was right for a new state of the art training facility to open at the heart of the community.
With bespoke state of the art equipment, coupled with a limited amount of available memberships the aim is to create a community of like minded fitness enthusiasts.
Maurice commented ‘The gym ethos is ‘Decide, Commit, Succeed’, which has been at the heart of all I have done since I took the keys to the old place and something i try to adopt in all aspects of life and something i also like to re-inforce when coaching my own 1:1 PT clients’.
Maurice is immensely proud of how the new facility looks and the early feedback from their new members is more than positive.
It really is a fabulous environment to work out in and they are keen for local people to come down and get involved and see it for themselves.
