14 of our fabulous runners flew the 2 hour journey over to Sunny Spain to take part in the Benidorm half marathon. The race took place not on a traditional Sunday morning but at 18.30 (Spanish time) on Saturday 29 February.
First home for Newport was Neil Jones who beat the 1 hour 45 minutes mark by 10 seconds, coming in at 1:44:50 in 482nd place. Maurice Reid cut the finish tape next by coming back in 569th position (1:47:21), followed 6 minutes later by Kay Wilkinson (1:53:22).
Next back in 1046th place was Alexia Tapley who romped home in 2:07:23.
Vance Heath was next in 2 hours, 6 minutes and 57 seconds, followed by Ralph Humphries (2:10:17), John Metzger was next in the finishers area in 1270th place (2:12:29), shortly followed by Patricia Arnot who made it back in 2:14:52. Martin Murdoch then finished in 1377th place, coming in at 2 hours, 20 minutes and 42 seconds.
Sarah Higginson and Wendy Tonge came in together in 2 hours, 26 minutes and 20ish seconds with 3 seconds between them (1456th and 1457th place). Other finishers were Helen Reid (2:27:13), Nigel Tonge (2:31:39) and Louise Heath (2:32:33).
