This weekend, Newport & District Running Club took their monthly parkrun trip to Chasewater, and it was a case of third time lucky, after previous attempts to visit that particular parkrun were thwarted by the weather!
This time, the rain held off, the temperature was perfect for running, and nine Novaportans made the trip down the A5 to run a lap of the lake. They were rewarded by some great views, and a deer even made an appearance during the first half of the run.
There were course PBs for Oliver Stokes, Darren Hesbrook-Edwards and Harry Wilmot (Harry’s was an overall PB), whilst Louise Patterson and Edward Wardroper were running at Chasewater for the first time.
The club are already looking forward to their next parkrun tourism trip, to Henley Wood parkrun in Oswestry, on June 17th.
Bristol 10k
On Sunday, Newport & District Running Club’s Steve Cannon made the trip south to Bristol to take part in the Bristol 10k, part of the Great Bristol Run, on a day that also includes a family fun run and a half marathon.
Steve was one of over 4,700 people to take part in the 10k alone, on a day when thousands of members of the running community had descended upon the city.
Starting and finishing in the Canon’s Marsh area of the city, the 10k route took runners on an anticlockwise route through Hotwells, crossing over to Spike Island, before returning towards the city centre and taking in landmarks such as Queen's Square and Castle Park.
Steve’s finishing time was 1 hour, 6 minutes, 41 seconds, which placed him 3,451st overall. This wasn’t the first time that Steve had taken part in the race, but the last time was pre-pandemic, in 2019.
