new Book Documents Early Records of Newport

Author | 24 November 2024

This is part of a joint Newport History Society and Victoria County History's (VCH) venture to write a new and definitive history of Newport.

One of the early parts of this work was to find and record all the medieval documents of Newport. Over 500 were found! Dr Everard and Prof. Richard Hoyle, the chair of VCH Shropshire , amazingly found some documents at Raby Castle, County Durham!

VCH Shropshire were very fortunate in getting funds for Judith's research from Shropshire Archaeological and Historical Society and, despite the print run being small, a charitable group -The List and Index Society - has published it.

In the photo shows from the left Ian Perry (mayor), Dr Judith Everard (VCH researcher and writer) and Linda Fletcher (chair Newport History Society)

The book is available at Bobbys Bistro at our book display (cash only), at our evening talks which are 2nd Tuesday of the month at Cosy Hall 7.30pm and via email (info@newporthistorysociety.org) where arrangements can be made for payment and delivery. The book costs £16. An ideal Christmas present for Novaportans!
