26/1/25: Walton Winter Wobble - On Sunday, two members of Newport & District Running Club took part in the Walton Winter Wobble, a 10k race which features an out-and-back course starting and finishing at Walton-on-the hill, just outside Stafford.
Featuring a number of hills, including one that is around a mile long, the route takes runners up onto Cannock Chase via Brocton Road, Walton Lane and Chase Road, before returning back to the start along the same route in reverse.
Alex Cochrane was making his comeback after a chest infection, and finished in 27th place overall in a field of 197 runners, finishing with a time of 45 minutes, 24 seconds. Alex’s uncle, David Evans, was the other NDRC participant in the race, and he ran a time of 51:26 to finish 67th overall.
25/1/25: Tissington Trail 10k - Last Saturday, Dave Thomas and Dale Fordham represented Newport & District Running Club at the Tissington Trail 10k.
Starting and finishing just outside Ashbourne town centre in Derbyshire, the route follows the Tissington Trail on a gentle climb into the Peak District, before turning around for a downhill finish on an out-and-back course.
149 runners turned out in the bright winter sunshine, which defrosted the odd patch of ice which had lingered on the course overnight.
Dave was the first Novaportan runner back, with a time of 50 minutes, 45 seconds and took 14th position whilst winning his age category. Dale was 27th overall in a time of 53:18.
