Having grown up on a family farm near the town, the Newport Show and I have a long history!
I’ve long been an attendee at the show, and when I returned to the region, after some time in London, I became the Treasurer and a Trustee of the Newport and District Agricultural Society.
This year, I have the great honour of being Show President – and with the day itself, on July 12, less than six months away, my work is well and truly underway!
I am, of course, supported by a great Show team, and together, we’re planning ways to make this year’s Show an even better family day out.
We’re currently taking bookings for exhibitors for both our trade stands and food and drink stalls – which, as any show visitor knows, are a big part of the day out. To find out more, visit chetwynddeerpark.co.uk/exhibitors and book your place now.
Similarly, we’re also talking to local businesses of all kinds about sponsorship opportunities for the Show. With thousands of visitors each year, this is a great opportunity to get your message to people from across our region and beyond.
Simply drop Emma a line on sponsorship@newportshow.co.uk and she’ll take it from there.
As ever, we’re also working with local schools to encourage young people to take an interest in agriculture, farming and food– which is another highlight of my role as President, and which I’ll be explaining more about soon.
And we are, of course, also putting the finishing touches to the full show line-up of entertainment. With music, speakers, chefs, and all kinds of family fun and live entertainment, the bill is looking great – so look out for more news soon!
One new innovation we’re introducing this year and which I’m particularly excited about is our Country Sports Area.
As someone who appreciates the benefits of country sports, I expect to be spending as much time there as my President’s duties allow – and there’s certainly lots to watch!
There will be BASC displays, Dog Scurries, Laser Clay Shooting, Falconry - including both demonstrations and handling - and Fly-Fishing demonstrations and mini lessons.
It’s a great further addition to all the other attractions we offer at the Show – and I am sure it’s set to be a huge hit with the crowds.
